Epstein Quarter Zip Sizing Guide: How It Should Fit and Which Size to Order

The Epstein quarter zip is a relaxed 2005 fleece silhouette, not a slim modern pullover. Getting the size right is the difference between "that's the sweater from the photo" and "that's a navy jumper". This guide covers how the original fit, how ours is cut, where to find the measurements for every size, and how to choose if you are between two.

How the original fit

Look at the Radar Magazine launch photograph from May 2005 and three things stand out about the fit: the shoulder seam sits slightly past the shoulder, the body has room through the chest without ballooning, and the sleeves finish at the wrist bone with a ribbed cuff. It is a size M according to the Miami showroom that sold the original, per the Miami New Times, worn by a man of average build. That is the reference we cut to.

How ours is cut

The Epsteinquarterzip® original is a regular fit with a slightly dropped shoulder and a straight body. It is true to size: order what you wear in a standard sweatshirt. If you want the slightly slouchy look from the photo, or you plan to layer a shirt or tee underneath in winter, go one size up. The fabric has some structure, so it will not collapse the way a thin fleece does when you size up.

Size chart

Measurements are of the garment laid flat. Chest is measured armpit to armpit and doubled; length from the highest point of the collar seam to the hem.

The exact measurements for every size, in centimetres and inches, are in the size chart on the product page. Compare them with a sweatshirt you already own and like the fit of.

The photographed size chart on the product page is the one that ships with your order; if the two ever differ, the product page wins.

Choosing between two sizes

  • Height under 175 cm, slim build: S for a regular fit, M for the photo fit.
  • 175 to 185 cm, average build: M regular, L relaxed. This is the range the original size M covered.
  • Over 185 cm or broad shoulders: L or XL. Check shoulder width first; on a dropped-shoulder cut the seam should land just past your shoulder bone.
  • Wearing it over a collared shirt: go up one size; the quarter zip collar is designed to sit open over a shirt collar.

The three fabric options fit the same. The 100% cotton original is slightly stiffer out of the box and relaxes after two washes; the 70/30 and 40/60 blends are softer from day one.

Washing and shrinkage

Cotton can shrink 2 to 3 percent in length on a hot wash. Wash cold, inside out, zip closed, and hang or lay flat to dry. Do not tumble dry hot. Sized correctly and washed cold, it stays the size on the chart. Full care notes are in How we made it.

Returns for size

Please measure a sweatshirt you already own against the chart before ordering. Every quarter zip is made to order, so a wrong size costs you weeks; the two minutes with a tape measure matter. Unworn items with tags can be returned within 30 days of delivery. If you are unsure, email us your height, weight and a chest measurement and we will tell you which size to pick.
