How We Made the 1:1 Epstein Quarter Zip: Fabric, Embroidery, Zipper and Patch

Most sellers of the Epstein quarter zip found a navy blank and sent it to an embroidery shop. We started from the photograph and worked backwards. This is the construction breakdown of the Epsteinquarterzip® original: the fabric, the embroidery, the patch, the zipper, the fit and the care, and what to check before you buy any version.

The reference

Our reference is the 18 May 2005 Getty photograph by Neil Rasmus and the additional images of the actual garment posted by the Miami showroom that sold it in September 2025, reported by the Miami New Times. The showroom's own authentication, as described in that article, compared zipper and stitching against the photos; we used the same close-ups. The base garment was a Sports Authority fleece, per Film Daily and AlterNet. Sports Authority closed in 2016, so the blank does not exist; we had to make one.

Fabric: three options

The 2005 original was a Sports Authority fleece. We offer three fabrics so you can choose the feel and the price: 100% cotton (€79.90), 70/30 cotton-polyester (€59.90) and 40/60 cotton-polyester (€39.90). The cut, colour and embroidery are identical across all three.

The colour is a dark navy matched to the photograph under daylight.

Embroidery: embossed JEE

The monogram is the whole product, so it is the part we spent the most samples on. Specification:

  • Three-letter diamond monogram, large centre E, smaller J and E, no punctuation. The letters stand for Jeffrey Edward Epstein; background in What does JEE mean?
  • Red thread, dense satin stitch so the letters are raised (what we call embossed), matching the shop-monogram look of the original.
  • Positioned on the left chest at the height in the photo, measured from the collar seam.

The dominant centre letter is not optional; copies with three equal-height letters look wrong in every photo.

Flag patch and zipper

The US flag is a patch sewn (not glued) to the upper left sleeve. Printed flags fade; glued patches peel at the corners. The zipper is a metal gold-tone quarter zip with a matching pull, because the photograph shows a metal zip and because a plastic one is the fastest way to make a heavy sweatshirt look cheap.

Fit

Regular fit, slight drop shoulder, ribbed cuffs and hem, straight body. True to size on European sizing, XS to XXL, cut to the proportions of the size M original. The full chart is in the sizing guide.

Care

  • Wash cold, inside out, zip closed, with similar colours.
  • Hang or lay flat to dry. No hot tumble dry; cotton can shrink 2 to 3 percent in length on heat.
  • Do not iron the embroidery directly. Turn inside out and press on low if needed.
  • No bleach.

Where it is sold

Only here. We do not sell through Etsy, eBay or Vinted, which is relevant because two of those platforms removed JEE sweater listings in March 2026 (FashionUnited / AFP). Vanity Fair listed epsteinquarterzip.com as one of three places to buy the sweater in February 2026, and Film Daily's September 2026 report on the replica market called it the dedicated site for this product. If you see our photos or our logo on another domain, that store is not us. See Epsteinquarterzip vs einzip for how to tell the two apart.

What it is not

A newly manufactured garment inspired by a photograph. Not vintage, not the sweater sold in Miami, not affiliated with or endorsed by Jeffrey Epstein, his estate or any related organisation. We say this on the product page and we say it here.

Frequently asked questions

Is it the same brand as the original?

No. The original was a discontinued Sports Authority fleece. Ours is made for us to match it.

Is the embroidery stitched or printed?

Stitched and raised. Ask any seller for a close-up before you buy; ours are on the product page.

Will the flag patch come off?

It is sewn on all four sides. It will outlast the sweatshirt.
